Small Groups at LBC
Have you heard about our small groups at Laingholm Baptist Church?
They’re also known as life groups or home groups, and they’re a great way for our church family to connect during the week in a more intimate setting. We like to think of it as “doing life together” and building strong relationships.
Our hope is that everyone at LBC would feel at home in a small group. They come in all shapes and sizes, and they meet for different purposes and durations.
So whether you’re new to LBC or have been attending for a while, we’re confident that you’ll find a group that suits your needs.
We can’t wait to see you thrive in a small group!

Resources for Small Groups
Here are some great links for new groups starting up & also might be useful for refresher for existing groups.
DISCOVERING SPIRITUAL GIFTS
God has given us all different spiritual gifts. We may be good at speaking truth (prophetic), loving others (priestly) or organising groups (kingly). Gifts without godly character and grace to exercise them are unlikely to produce genuine fruit, so if we want to serve through the church, how do we know what we are gifted for?
These resources can be helpful for exploring the questions “What are my spiritual gifts?” and “How can I best serve through the church?”.
Use the links below to find a thought-provoking podcast and an article by Tim Keller.
Think about how our small groups or ministry groups can support each other to discover and exercise what God has given us for service.

These two courses come highly recommended
Prayer Course, http://prayercourse.org/
Pete Greig and Jonny Hughes
Journey through the Lord’s Prayer with six short videos and a handy ‘cheat sheet’ for each session, all designed to fuel discussion and deepen the prayer life of your church.
Life Shared Course, https://alphacanada.org/preview/lifesharedseries/
The Life Shared Small Group Series is a 3-part video series aimed at encouraging and equipping everyone in the church to share their faith, and invite people in their lives to discover a relationship with Jesus. It was designed for small group settings to prompt in-depth discussion and engagement.
The series works well as a lead up to Alpha to encourage invitation but even if the church or group is not running Alpha, it can be used more broadly to inspire people to share their faith.

Here are some other resources.
Long story short, https://longstoryshort.co/
Long Story Short is a video series designed to unfold the story of the Bible.
The Bible is a big book and, let’s be honest, it’s pretty hard to get your head around it all. Long Story Short simply strips the story back to its core and then presents the story in a way that is accessible to everyone. It’s all about discovering the heartbeat of the Bible, in as short as seven sessions, without all the tradition and protocol of Western religion.
The Purple Book, http://thepurplebook.org/
Rice Brookes/Steve Murrell, Rice Brookes is the cofounder of the Every Nation family of churches, with more than one thousand churches in more than 73 nations.
The Bible Project,
The Bible Project creates videos that show the Bible as a unified story that leads to Jesus. The Bible is literary genius and has divine wisdom for the modern world.
